Scientific Tour
Montréal-Québec City (June 13-14) / Québec City-Montréal (June 19-20)
Departure from Hotel des Gouverneurs in Montreal, where participants will have spent the previous night, at 8:00 am on Sunday, June 14th. The first visit will feature the unique Montréal Biodôme and the Montréal Botanical Garden. Visits will include the controlled environment facilities at the Biodôme.
The Biodôme isn’t a zoo, an aquarium or a botanical garden, but all these things combined: it brings together four ecosystems from the Americas, under one roof, each with a different climate: the Tropical Forest, the Laurentian Forest, the St-Lawrence Marine ecosystem and the Polar world. Hummingbirds, sloth, piranhas, beavers, sea urchins are waiting around the corner. Visitors to the Biodôme will get the opportunity to go behind the scenes.
The Botanical Garden was founded in 1931 by Brother Marie-Victorin and
designed by famous American botanist Henry Teuscher. The garden has a
total area of 75 hectares and features some 22,000 species and
cultivars, with main collections in orchids, aroids, cacti, bromeliads,
Penjings from Hong Kong, alpine plants (3,800 taxa) and shade garden
(2800 taxa). Main attractions on the premises include a Japanese
garden, Chinese garden and the Insectarium.
Participants will later visit a large flower greenhouse operation and garden center located 50 km East of Montréal. Everyone will then come to Québec City for the welcome reception at the Loews Le Concorde Hotel, GreenSys 2009 venue. On Friday, June 19, participants will leave at 7:30 am from the hotel and visit 3 greenhouse operations featuring vegetable and flower production. The tour will include a scenery drive along the St-Lawrence River. Participants will arrive at Hotel des Gouverneurs, downtown Montreal, where they could enjoy a nice evening in Old Montreal, on their own. The cost of the tour includes fee for 2 nights at Hotel les Gouverneurs (downtown Montreal), bus transportation, 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, all visits and applicable taxes.

Poster Guidelines
SIZE/COPY: Maximum poster size: Height 120 cm, Width 85 cm. Materials must be easily read at a distance of 1.5 meters.
LAYOUT/REQUIRED TEXT: Be sure to include the title of the poster in large letters, the institution(s) where the work was completed, and the authors’ names at the top centre of the poster. Carelessly prepared or a hand-written copy is not acceptable. To design poster text, use Arial font size of 28 point or larger.
READABILITY: Space your information proportionally, divide your poster into three or four sections and place your materials within those spaces. Remember to leave blank space around charts and graphs--text placed too close to graphs (except for labels and numbers) will make your poster appear cluttered. Neutral backgrounds are easier on the eyes and do not distract from the poster text and graphics; color photos look best when mounted on a grey background. Posters should stimulate discussion. If your point can be made with fewer words, then edit your poster accordingly.
HANDOUTS: Individual handouts relative to poster presentations are popular and encouraged.
SUPPLIES: Velcro will be available on site in the poster area.
SET UP: All posters must be hung between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Sunday, June 14 or between 7:30 am and 11:30 am on Monday, June 15 and be removed between 1:40 pm and 2:40 pm on Wednesday, June 17.
PRESENCE: The poster viewing periods are over lunchtime on Monday, June 15, Tuesday, June 16 and Wednesday, June 17.
There will be three poster sessions, one per day. According to your theme session, your abstract will be scheduled in one of these sessions:
Monday June 15: Greenhouse Systems, Crop Modelling-Hortimodel, Plant Protection, Fertigation and growing media management, New Products and Quality.
Tuesday June 16: Energy, CFD, Greenhouse management, High Tunnels, Organic Crop Systems.
Wednesday June 17: Sustainable growing systems, Microclimate, Robotic and Sensors, Environmental Control, Education and Training.
At least one of the authors must be at the assigned poster during the designated poster viewing time to discuss the work presented, so if you are unable to present your poster, please make arrangements for one of your co-authors to be there. Note that a student poster award will be given for the best presentation at the closing ceremony.
